Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at 519-339-1592 or southcottfamilymedicine@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Our phone lines are answered Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

To help patients plan appointments and prescription refills, we schedule vacation and office closures as far in advance as possible, typically at the beginning of each year. Planned closures are posted on the Home page of our website. We encourage patients to check these dates and request prescription renewals well in advance of any scheduled closure.

No. Our office operates on an appointment-only basis and does not offer walk-in appointments.

We do reserve a number of urgent same-day and same-week appointments when appropriate. If you have an urgent concern, please contact the office so we can determine the most appropriate appointment time.

Patients can contact the office at 519-339-1592 or email the admin staff at southcottfamilymedicine@gmail.com.

You can request a prescription refill by booking an appointment or by having your pharmacy fax a refill request to our office.

Please note that prescription refills completed without an appointment are subject to a fee (this fee is waived for patients enrolled in our Annual Fee Program).

Because refill requests often require review of your medical record and may involve communication with your pharmacy or specialist to confirm medications and dosages, we ask that you request refills well before you run out of medication.

Payment for refill requests without an appointment is processed through Docnote. Patients must have a Docnote account, and once payment has been received, your prescription will be automatically released to your pharmacy.

If you have run out of medication and our office is closed or cannot be reached, please contact your pharmacy. Pharmacists are often able to provide an emergency supply of many medications while your refill request is being processed.

Dr. Southcott reviews all test results. If a result requires follow-up or is significantly abnormal, a member of our nursing or administrative team will contact you.

Although uncommon, there are rare occasions when a test result is not received by our office. If you are concerned or have not heard from us within a reasonable timeframe, please contact the office. Our staff can confirm whether your results have been received and reviewed, and arrange any necessary follow-up.

The Annual Fee Program is an optional yearly subscription that covers many uninsured services that are not paid for by OHIP, such as:

  • Prescription refills completed without an appointment
  • Sick notes
  • Most medical forms and letters

Enrolling in the program can help reduce or eliminate individual fees for these services throughout the year.

Patients who wish to enroll can do so through Docnote at www.docnote.com.

You can see more information under "Annual Fee Program" page.
